Undesign are an italian graphic design studio, based in Turin. They tell us, “Basing ourselves on the interrelation between design and branding, we create and follow an aesthetic programme defined as undesign, like the name we chose for our studio. We work on all the functional, communicative, formal and emotional aspects of a project by following our motto: design less, design better.” It is a splendid portfolio, which is refreshingly thorough and very well presented.

Petar Pavlov sent us this Doritos concept piece that he recently did. “The shape and the texture of the Doritos chips are used as the base for this packaging concept. The packaging’s triangular structure can keep the chips closed after opening.” That’s a really neat, well executed idea

Patrick from Ikon recently sent us some very nice images from a packaging project they did for the restaurant ‘Sevva’ in Hong Kong last year. Ikon created the identities and key collateral for the patissiere and dessert / cake shop that belongs to Sevva, called ‘Ms.B’ (in honour of the owner Bonnie Gokson - she’s like the asian version of Martha Stewart, but with alot more style.)
“Drawing inspiration from the romance of old-fashioned European patisseries, Ikon used the silhouette of a classic Venetian mirror and script font to create the decorative logo. With a select palette of pink, chocolate, white and gold, these rich elements are balanced with bold stripes and a deconstructed doily pattern.”

Adam Paterson and Santi Tonsukha from the Royal College of Art Industrial Design Engineering created “GrowYourOwn” packaging for fruit and vegetable seeds for novice gardeners. Using user centric research and the natural properties of 100% recyclable corrugated cardboard, they created new packaging that was simple, clear, sustainable and approachable. The project won ‘In-Book’ award for the D&AD Student Awards 2009. A single piece of 100% recycled corrugated cardboard is the package.
With previous seed packaging, distributing the seeds evenly from the pack was very hard. By using the corrugated structure the seeds are held in thin rows, which are the perfect ‘v’ shape to allow them to be very easily and controllably shaken out. It can be tedious and boring laying out rows of seeds whilst trying to maintain equal spacing. The new measuring tape style, which the DIY savvy customer can easily relate, makes it much quicker and easier. The tape, with its embedded seeds, has 10 cm markers on it, making it easy to simply pull out the desired length, tear it off and lay it in the ground.

We received these packaging shots for a new drink called Crispin Hard Cider. The packaging is the creation of designers Scott Tuffield and Judd Moss, of White-Works, out of the UK. The brand’s label with it’s beautiful frosty Apple tree logo, comes in 3 distinct 4 pack cube carry cases, representing Crispin Hard Apple cidar’s level of intensity.

CD packaging for the band Splitting Adam. The concept surrounds a fictitious character named Adam and his internal struggle with an audio triggered bipolar disorder. The cover splits Adam to reveal inside his head, a 3D animated hologram which morphs from a passive lamb into an aggressive ape. The cd and insert artwork documents Adams mental state along with vital stats and fi nal prognosis.
The photo of Adam was created using combination of all 5 band members photos. Each band member needed to be shot in rotation which was used as the basis to create the smooth animated sequence. The packaging dieline was developed custom for this project and the hologram manufactured in Russia.
Please see the hologram album packaging here!
