Bruno Maag, founder of Dalton Maag, gave a fascinating talk last night at Leicester De Montfort Uni entitled Religion, Rabbits & Type. Inspirational, insightful, opinionated (in a good way), all round Reet Good. All this, and a recipe for rabbit in saffron risotto thrown in for nowt.
Thanks to Mark Jesset of GF Smith for his organisation skills – keep em coming, dude.

Loosely translated as “tempting fate,” Sylvester’s ( Brakeless Bikes Founder ) newest creation was born out of an urge to do a different looking bike that’s also comfortable and fun to ride. The upshot is a bike not just with a clever name but that’s also a way of life. Two HED wheels, FMF handlebars, a vintage saddle, Nitto seatpost, Sugino cranks from Japan, Odyssey twisted pedals and a YBN chain from Yaban compliment the frame, made by Canadian outfit Marinoni.
This sculpture, by Jonathan Schipper, is a machine that advances two full sized automobiles slowly into one another, simulating a head on automobile collision. The gear system can be adjusted so that the crash occurs over the period of a few days, up to one year or more. The movement can be made so slow as to be invisible.
Monolab created the ambitious contemporary residence ‘body house’ in rotterdam, near the harbour. The architects designed the home with the sleeping and bathing spaces in a concrete plinth, while the living, dining and cooking spaces float in the void above, suspended by a steel frame. I’ve pulled out of the last house, I’m moving in here instead.
I gotta admit, even as a fan of Mr Jarvis, the first 20 seconds or so left me thinking “Humm, what’s the big deal”, then it got going! A lovely bit of animation (The running action is pretty much spot on), that gets cleverer the more you analyse it. I’d be interested to see how this was put together.
“Architect adam kalkin combines 12 shipping containers inside a larger structure to create the adriance house in northern maine. The home uses the containers partially for structure, supporting a glazed glass structure that envelops the home.” When can I move in?? Awesome!
