Kraanspoor—The reuse of an old crane dock. A new glass office building, with a climatic façade of double glazing, motorized louvers on the outside and full length windows on the inside, hovers above the old dock. The result of the architect Trude Hooykaas of OTH bicycling by and forseeing the opportunity for a new office, this project evolved from much determination and perseverance, as a developer had to be found and the authorities convinced.

The San Francisco art collective of Upper Playground and FIFTY24SF are set to invade Los Angeles later this month. Four retail spaces will open up on Downtown Los Angeles’ Skid Row, each with their own distinct theme and range of products. Upper Playground’s talented twosome of Mister Cartoon and Estevan Oriol will be among the artists displaying works which include Usugrow, Sam Flores, Jeremy Fish, David Choe, Herbert Baglione, San, Retna, Saber, Alex Pardee, Ron English, Doze Green, Slick, Armsrock and David Ellis.

I just saw Presence on TV tonight, an advert for Mercedes Benz. This latest advert is part of a campaign by Abbott Mead Vickers and features a number of different actors talking about different aspects of personality including presence, attraction and ambition. Presence stars Josh Brolin. Its directed by Johnny Green through Knucklehead productions. Dark and moody, languid and cool, it echoes recent Michael Mann films. View Presence here.
